Harlem Globetrotters Ticket Giveaway

03.23.17

When it comes to entertaining basketball, it doesn’t get any better than the Harlem Globetrotters. The team has been around since the 1920’s – and over these years have played more than 26,000 games in 122 countries – delighting fans of all ages with their athleticism, comedy and theatrical antics across the globe. Seeing a Harlem Globetrotters game live is more than an experience – it is a right of passage for children (and adults!) of all ages.

Growing up I remember “Goose”, “Curly” and Meadowlark Lemon not only showcasing their skills on the court, but also appearing in Scooby Doo episodes, one of my favorite cartoons at the time (and enjoyed by Lil Kid now!). It’s great to share an experience that spans generations and the Harlem Globetrotters do just that. The Harlem Globetrotters are timeless.

Lil Kid’s first basketball experience was not unlike many firsts for toddlers: Standing with a ball, looking up at a hoop that might as well be a mile away.

Now he is starting to get taller and is learning how to dribble and pass; still too short for the tall hoops, but thankfully NYC has playgrounds with lower rims for the little b-ball players with big hoop dreams – and plenty of deserted alley ways for us to play and hone in on his dribbling.

We have the best time grabbing a ball and hitting a park – playing catch, keep away and trying tricks (that admittedly neither of us are good at!).

While our little guy doesn’t enjoy watching typical basketball games on TV (we’ve tried) he LOVES watching the Harlem Globetrotters. He thinks they are funny – especially when they do the “bucket of confetti into the crowd” joke or pull down the opposing players shorts.

Of course the humorous gags are only part of why the Harlem Globetrotters are so entertaining – their world class basketball skills are a must-see for any basketball fan. There’s the wicked dribbling, behind-the-back passing, super-duper dunks. The perfect mix of comedy and athleticism keeps him fully engaged and interested – and wanting to try the sport. As a parent – there’s nothing better than finding something that inspires a young mind.
