Up Close with Lady Liberty – Circle Line Tour

dsc03207

New York City is the greatest city in the world! Once in a while it’s important to take in the sights as a tourist in our own city. Not only the opportunity to see some amazing things – an incredible learning experience for the mini New Yorker in the making.
We jumped at the chance to take a cruise of New York Harbor with Circle Line, as one of the amazing experiences with KidPass.
This incredible cruise gets you within 100 feet of the Statue of Liberty, and offers stunning panoramic views of midtown and lower Manhattan, all while listening to insightful narration by the ship’s talented guides.
How amazing that KidPass experiences now include this? We simply went online with our account and booked this tour within minutes.

Walking to the ship!

Two tickets to Ride! The check-in process couldn’t be easier. We printed out our KidPass confirmation, handed it in at the check-in counter, and were handed our tour tickets.

Lil Kid was excited to board!

Inside the boat on the main entry level. Plenty of seating!

And lots of eating (If you wish!) The cafe was fully stocked with pretzels, hotdogs, salads, snacks, ice cream and assorted chips. Drinks include sodas, coffee and alcoholic beverages too – all available for purchase while enjoying the view.

On the upper deck! Plenty of seating for all. There is also an indoor heated/air-conditioned portion towards the front of the ship.

The seats located on the top of the boat fill quickly – with those seats located directly against the outer railings being the most popular due to their view. If you would like to stay outside for the entire trip – these are the seats to run up and get.

Honestly, all seats have a truly incredible view – there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Also, the path of the tour brings the boat to Lady Liberty, turns around, and heads back up the Hudson again – ensuring that both sides of the ship will get a front row visit to Lady Liberty.

We walked downstairs and outside to the front of the ship. The views of lower Manhattan were incredible!

But so was the wind. We took in the amazing view for a few minutes before heading back in.

The Empire Statue building!

On the right -a part of the Hudson Yards development. We learned from the tour guide that the Hudson Yards is the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States! The site when completed will include more than 17 million square feet of commercial and real estate space.

Back on the first level! The large picture windows gave us the best view. Look at the incredible Freedom Tower right in front of you!

Loved that we had the whole lower level to ourselves.

Next we came upon Lady Liberty herself. The boat comes within 100 feet to the statue, for an amazingly stunning view.

The guide spoke the entire time with interesting facts and tidbits of New York, including the Statue of Liberty.

Did you know that Lady Liberty is made of 3/32″ thick copper – the thickness of two pennies pressed together?  The naturally oxidized copper gives her the famous green patina look.

We went outside again for a closer look.

At the time of her construction, she was the tallest iron structure on earth – she stands over 305 feet from the ground to her torch. How amazing!

dsc03502

It doesn’t  get better than this view!

dsc03555

We’ve visited the Statue of Liberty before – and have seen her from the shore, but nothing beats this water front view.
