All aboard! This weekend Lil Kid Big City traveled to Phillipsburg NJ for the incredible ‘Day out with Thomas’ event at the Delaware River Train Station.
Lil Kid, as most toddler age boys do, LOVES Thomas. But really – who can resist the most useful engine?
A Day out with Thomas is a Nationwide event where the locomotive portion of the train is converted to be Thomas. Yes- actually Thomas!! Larger than life and just as you would imagine – It is quite an amazing site to see in person.
But its not just the train!
A Day out with Thomas ticket gets you a ride with Thomas, admission to the numerous festivities, and abundant picture opportunities with Thomas and some Island of Sodor friends.
This was actually our second year attending. The first year was so incredible that we knew last year we would return. And it didn’t disappoint. It simply is magical.
At the Delaware River Excursion location of Thomas you must walk down a (quite steep!) hill to the train… which makes for quite an entrance for the kids. The catch phrase of the event is “Real Big Train, Real Big Smiles” and that statement couldn’t be more true! As you start the walk down the hill – Thomas suddenly comes within sight between trees and a picturesque railroad scene.
It’s quite beautiful! But even more – was seeing Lil kids reaction. He loved seeing Thomas! his face lit up in excitement.
Theres plenty of other activites and things to do (all free!) that constitute it to be
a day out”. The Phillipsburg location had a petting zoo.
Saying hi to the pony “Hi Mr. Horse” said out Lil Conductor.
The “Imagination Station” Tent.
Included Many train table stations, temporary tattoos, coloring, arts and crafts, and a Mega Bloks station for building. Lil Kid could spend hours in this tent alone!
All aboard! We heard the call and quickly ran to the train. On the train itself (pulled by Thomas). Note: NOT air-conditioned. On the day we came it was 95 degrees outside. It was warm but doable (wind blowing into windows helps tremendously).
Note the vine decorations. I kept waiting for the sommelier (mamas thirsty in the 95 degree heat!) but unfortunately the decoration is only that. The train serves as a wine train tour on certain weekends. May need to come back for that one…..
The view out the window from the train. The Delaware River and surrounding areas are simply gorgeous!
On the train! The ride in total is about 20 minutes. Just long enough to hold the attention of little ones.
Except ours. But about half way through Lil Man started to get sleepy… an exciting day out with Thomas does a number on ya.
One thing we learned? Little Engines can do big things.
Until next year Thomas!
