Head over to Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Times Square today to become part of record breaking history! Lief Becker, world famous martial artist, will be participating in Ripley’s Week of Giving event, Breaking Barriers, where he will break through 12,000 (!!) wood boards in 24 hours for a Record Setters World Record attempt.
Setting the Scene – Breaking Barriers
The event takes place in front of Ripley’s Believe it or Not! in Times Square on 42nd street – allowing for the public to watch the amazing breaking action from the sidewalk.
Internationally renowned Martial Artist and world record holder Leif Becker currently holds the title as the fastest board breaker in the world, breaking 487 Boards in one minute with one hand. The record attempt today will be for 12,000 (!!) wooden boards in a 24 hour period.
Break for a Cause – enCourage Kids Foundation
“Breaking Barriers” is a collaborative event with Leif Becker to benefit and raise awareness for the enCourage Kids Foundation. The foundation encourages all kids facing health challenges to be carefree by creating environments and experiences that help them break through the barriers of their medical journeys.
Come by and cheer him on, or join in the event by purchasing (and decorating!) a wooden board for $5. Ripley’s has a decoration station set up for visitors to decorate their boards with inspiring messages, or visuals of personal barriers that Leif will break through during the attempt.

World Record Attempt
The action begins! The boards are set up in numerous stations on a small carpeted area. Volunteers helped to replace the broken boards quickly so Leif could keep pace.
