Every Child is an Artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up. -Pablo Picasso
Nurturing creativity is very important in our family. Not only in our home itself, we try to be sure to find creative outlets outside as often as possible.
One of Lil Kid’s absolute favorite places is The Children’s Museum of the Arts. This incredible nonprofit arts facility brings hands-on art classes and programming to children in New York. Any age, from 10 months to 15 years, can come and enjoy fun art projects and classes in a wide range of mediums. The wonderful, fun loving, staff is comprised of practicing teaching artists who mentor the children.
We recently attended CMA for the art filled drop-in session before the doors opened to the public. As always, Lil Kid was beaming with excitement!
The WEE Arts drop in session takes place in the studio space – where young children play at various art stations, have music time, and story time. Parents or caregivers are required to accompany the children, and are also encouraged to collaborate throughout the class.
The fun starts immediately upon walking in. Colorful popsicle sticks on the moulding table invite creativity.
Coloring Time! Lil Kid coloring at the window sill.
A colorful dotty good time!
Flubber Fun! No child can resist the flubber wall.
Block Party!
Brushing up on Paint skills.
The Museum even has a Clay Bar – a bar where children can be mentored on sculpting clay into amazing forms. Today was landscapes. Lil Kid was a bit young but hopped right up there and created a dessert scene complete with cactus friends!
Upstairs at the twirling tops. Lil Kid was enthralled.
Hold On!
Walking through the latest exhibit entitled, “If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home.” The awesome exhibit in the Wainwright Gallery is all based on mapping and cartography.
Lil Kid loved it.
“Is this New York Mommy?”
Lil Kid making his mark before leaving.
