I scream, you scream, we all scream – when we can make our own ice cream! The hottest place in town? Where you can make the coolest mess, and eat it too. Welcome to New York’s ice cream queen: CoolMess!
This is not our first visit to this make your own pint palace. We LOVE CoolMess, and are frequent visitors. Our little guy adores nothing more than an ice cream treat, and here at CoolMess – they make the ice cream experience quite unique.
The creative, incredible idea allows ice cream fanatics to create their own special flavor, right at their dining table.
Today we take look at this sweet phenomenon, and see why a visit to cool mess needs to be on everyone’s horizon.
An Ice Cream Dream: CoolMess
First and foremost, lets talk about the entry. The sprinkled hallway was brilliantly designed, bringing smiles to all instantly (and a feeling that something special was going to be happening!)

Located in the Upper East Side, CoolMess is owned by (the incredible and friendly) members of the Burger Heaven family and is located on the second floor above the restaurant.
Welcome to candyland! The fully stocked candy wall greets visitors. The space is absolutely delicious! Bright, colorful, and fun – like walking through an ice cream dream.
The tables are set awaiting a mess! Placemats list out ingredients and “messipes” choices for ice cream fun.
Not just ice cream, CoolMess also sells a wide selection of local sweet finds such as DO Cookie Dough, milkshakes, pastries, and more!
First – lunch! In addition to being an ice cream dream – CoolMess offers a full (delicious!) menu of Burger Haven favorites from burgers to fresh salads and more. This restaurant has a treat for all!
The Scoop
But what’s the scoop?! How does one make their own ice cream?
There’s a few easy steps to make your mess!
Each table is equipped with a small ice cream maker, allowing for ice cream to be made right from your chair. The placemats act as your ingredient list. You can choose your own, or follow suggestions called “messipes” to make certain flavors.
First: You choose your base flavor – either vanilla or chocolate!
Second: Choose 3 toppings from a yummy list that includes everything from cookies, brownies, and sprinkles, to even marshmallows!
Third: Add all to the ice cream maker and watch your mess be made! In a matter of minutes the mixture churns and freezes to create ice cream.

Fourth: The best part – enjoy the mess! Our little guy was screaming for ice cream! Doesn’t it always taste better when you make it yourself?
So much fun – CoolMess is definitely our favorite NYC flavor!
