Exploring Elizabeth Street Garden

There is nothing more magical then Elizabeth Street Garden. Tucked away between buildings in Little Italy, this unique community gathering place is so much more than a garden. With incredible stone sculptures and artifacts openly displayed between a wild array of gorgeous grass, vines and flowering plants – a walk through this tranquil garden feels like you are stepping into a secret movie set, or perhaps a by gone era of the past.

Exploring Elizabeth Street Garden

There is no better place to find reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city, or to take in such incredible beauty. Elizabeth Street Garden is the only green oasis in the Little Italy and SoHo neighborhood. The Garden, open to the public by volunteers, provides a beautiful sanctuary for local residents and workers. The site was transformed from a lot in ruin into a beautiful garden in 1991 when Elizabeth Street Gallery leased the site from the city. The statues were placed there by the gallery, to the enjoyment of visitors and the community.  The gallery continues to operate in a renovated 1850s firehouse adjacent to the garden.

Located in a renovated 1850s New York City firehouse with an adjacent sculpture garden of nearly one acre, Elizabeth Street Gallery represents the vision and efforts of a life-long collector of fine objects.
