Lil Kid strumming with a legend at the Make Music New York Festival in Times Square!
This unique annual event celebrates the first day summer with over 1,000 free concerts and music performances throughout all the NYC boroughs!
Completely different from a typical music festival, the Make Music Festival is open to every kind of musician — young and old, amateur or professional. These musicians pour into streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. Even better – All performances and lessons are free and open to the public.
Not just in NYC – the Make Music Fest takes place simultaneously with similar festivals in more than 700 cities around the world. Such a special day for music discovery!
We visited the Guitars in Times Square event during the festival, where fifty guitar teachers gave lessons in the pedestrian plaza of the crossroads of the world. Among the teachers was one of Times Square’s most famous characters, the Naked Cowboy! He and Lil Kid strummed a few chords and posed with their guitars after the lesson.
Only in New York folks!
The Naked Cowboy loved Lil Kid’s hat!
The bustling scene of teachers and students.
Lil Kid found a perfectly sized child guitar at one of the tables, and his teacher was no other than Travis of the ChordBuddy! Fans of the TV show Shark Tank will know Travis as the creator and inventor of the Chordbuddy, an innovative guitar teaching mechanism that helps students learn how to play cords in a few easy steps.
Travis was so kind and helped give our young music fan a lesson he could understand, and even helped Lil Kid to play a song after with the Chordbuddy. What an incredible invention – it was so easy to use! Travis said is now wildly popular thanks to the show. Loved hearing such an inspiring success story.
What a great experience! Thank you Make Music Fest for an amazing day that we wont forget. Can’t wait for next year!
