You can now have an anatomy lesson with gorgeous interactive illustrations! We loved the jam packed, impeccably illustrated pages of Carnovsky’s new book, Illumanatomy, a follow up to the internationally best-selling Illuminate. With the use of a three-color X-ray lens card, Illumanatomy magically allows its readers to explore below the skin of the human body. Through the colorful, gorgeously detailed illustrations, the reader can discover just how the body works, and take a look inside the skeleton, blood vessels and muscular systems like never before.
A wonderful encyclopedia on anatomy, with a playful way to educate those who are interested in the human body – this book is nothing short of fascinating. What will you discover about yourself?
Taking a look INSIDE
What makes this book so unique is the included viewing lens. The reader uses the magical X-ray card to examine the pages to see specific systems within the human skeleton. The red lens reveals bone structures, the green lens explores muscles, while the blue lens uncovers organs and blood vessels.
From Head to Toe
The book is separated by chapters following the order of the human body (such as the head, eyes and ears, mouth and nose, etc…). Within each chapter there are three sections: Part of the Body, X-Ray Room, and Anatomy Room. Readers can use the magical lens in Part of the Body, and X-ray Room sections, and the black and white Anatomy pages allow you to dig deeper into further information. There are also lots of facts to discover; did you know that a 1/4 of all your bones in you body are in your feet?
A note to parents: one of the chapters in Illumanatomy is about a growing baby and reproduction. Depending on when you want to have the conversation on the birds and the bees with you little one; this book could be a great conversation starter – or the perfect way for children to take the learning of reproduction a step further.
An Out of Body Experience
I was blown away by the illustration style of Carnovsky. Her gorgeously detailed illustrations turn otherwise bland anatomy diagrams into something incredible, and fascinating. The magical lenses are brilliant, and makes this book such a unique discovery experience. While our son is a bit young for some of the information (the book is suggested for age 8-12), he still couldn’t get enough of the magical lens. He spent much time exploring the muscle and skeleton structures, all of which opened discussions to more about the human body, bone structures and how our systems work. I’m excited to see him grow into loving this book even more, as he grows with his reading.
Aren’t humans (and this book) incredible?
