Skate with Olympic Greats
We’ve met Melissa before – and we cannot say enough positive things about her. She’s so kind, motivating, and welcoming. A mother herself – she’s totally in tune with kids, and the perfect first skate instructor!
She welcomed Lil Kid on the ice – and showed him how to be comfortable with the training seal.
Getting the hang of the seal! It only took a few minutes for Lil Kid to be cruising around with his new blue friend.
Class is in session! The cones were set up for the other (slightly more advanced) classes taking place on the ice.
The Hudson River Waterfront offers a one of a kind skating experience – just look at this view! Situated behind Brookfield Place on the gorgeous waterfront – it is a spectacular scene like no other in the city.
Smiles all around!
A couple separate group lessons were being held on the rink (and all much more advance then our lil guy!)
There was plenty of space for all of us. Lil Kid loved watching the other students, and I think it helped to motivate him to skate “like a big kid.”
No tears this year! Loved seeing him having such a fun time on the ice.
Lil Kid befriended a young boy about his same age. Love how they motivated each other.
One of the lessons from Melissa – carrying the block from one side of rink to the other, a lesson on concentration and balance. The block helps to take the focus off of needing your hands (no rail or hand holding).
Our lil guy is obsessed with building right now (blocks, cubes, magnetos, shoes – anything and everything you can stack and build!) so this was a perfect lesson for him. His intrigue to move the blocks across the rink surpassed the fear of skating by himself without help!
So proud of my lil skater boy!
Towards the end of the lesson, Lil Kid realized that instead of a glide, he could actually ride (and sit upon) his new blue friend! We did a few laps with me pushing him around at top speeds – he was having an absolute blast -and loved going around the rink fast! (I think we may have a speed demon on our hands…)
Brunch at the Conrad Hotel
The skating sure worked up an appetite! After the lesson we walked over two blocks to the beautiful Atrio Restaurant and Wine Bar at the Conrad Hotel for a scrumptious brunch that was part of our skating package.
The amazing menu! From club sandwiches to yougurt parfaits, and even chocolate chip pancakes (yum!) theres was something to please everyone.
Even hot dogs too 😉
