Hooked on a Feeling – Museum of Feelings

The Museum of Feelings is the first museum that can actually feel! The walls and exterior actually reflects New York’s collective mood by using real-time data from Social Media.

Beyond the walls the museum engages visitors with installations to provoke emotion through color, sight, sound, and smell. Sponsored by Glade – scent is prevalent in each room.

An incredible publicity stunt that has incredible lines. We arrived at 10:30 for the 11:00 opening on a weekday, and were about 300th in line. By the time we reached the museum there was over 1,000 people in line. Seriously. We heard stories of visitors waiting over 5 hours to tour the museum.

And now having seen it – I can tell you that it is a JOY and absolutely worth it. This sensory museum is fun, cool, and an incredible sight, especially for kids.

Outside the front entrance. As it was daytime the outer walls were not illuminated, but during the evening hours the structure shines brightly as New York’s Mood Ring.

Inside an inscription read “Open up to an Emotional Journey.” This journey included 5 rooms – Optimistic, Joyful, Invigorated, Exhilarated, Calm. All are marked with clear guides before entering.

The Invigorated Room. Light “halos” followed Lil Kid on the floor. He loved playing and dancing with the light.

Into the Joyful room. We were given 3-D glasses to help navigate the green forest of long LED Lights. Lil Kid had a blast navigating these long futuristic trees. A faint fir-tree scent accompanied the forest.

The Exhilarated room was to mimic being inside of a Kaleidoscope. Lil Kid loved watching the flowers take shape. The sweet smell of “blooming peony and cherry” added to the experience.

Cloudy has never been so fun.
