No job is too big, no pup is too small! PAW Patrol is on a roll this Holiday Season and Ryder is here to save the day! Thanks to Nickelodeon and Macy’s – we were lucky enough to have a behind-the-scenes tour of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Balloon Inflation to see our favorite character take shape – Chase from PAW Patrol!
An Annual Tradition
Every year, millions of spectators gather for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City to view the airborne giant helium-filled balloons and balloonicles, spectacular floats, clowns, marching bands and performance groups, as they make their way through New York City to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday.
A Balloon Inflation Celebration
Just as fun as the parade is the annual celebration that takes place the day before. The Macy’s Parade Balloon Inflation provides an exciting preview of the larger-than-life balloons that you will see in the famous parade and get a ‘sneak preview’ as they are filled with helium at eye level, making the experience up-close and personal.
Before the inflation – the balloons lie flat on the ground waiting for their turn to be filled. The American Museum of Natural History oversees the celebration.
The inflation takes place around the American Museum of Natural History, where numerous helium tank trucks and teams of parade workers line the museum perimeter and help to fill these giant balloons with helium. Once inflated, the Macy’s balloon crew secures the characters overnight. The crew places numerous sand bags around the netting – tethering these balloons tight (so they don’t take flight). It’s here that the balloons will stay until the famous parade.

To see these balloons come to life is truly an incredible sight! Where else could you marvel at larger-than-a-house sized balloons directly in front of you?
The pup-pack is filled! It’s starting to look like Chase!
The talented balloon crew works quickly to fill the balloons. The balloon is filled with large hoses, and work on a balloon section-by-section. It takes approximately 45 minutes to fill a balloon with helium.

After the balloon has been completed the crew secures the balloon with sandbags (to be sure the balloon doesn’t take flight over night!).
One PAW-Some Balloon
Having attended the event annually as a family for years – We were ecstatic to be invited to an exclusive behind the scenes PAW Patrol inflation of our little guy’s favorite character – none other than Chase from PAW Patrol!
We love Chase and the entire PAW Patrol pack of pups. The PAW Patrol goes on high-stakes rescue missions to protect Adventure Bay, while teaching kids how to solve problems through teamwork. We can also now watch the newest and most exciting adventures yet on the PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups DVD available exclusively at Walmart. It takes the fun of the show and adds even more adventure and fun! We love the feel-good missions in the show, and that PAW Patrol teaches kids that no job is too big and no pup – or child- is too small!
Watching Chase take shape was truly an incredible sight. Fun balloon facts: Chase’s hat could cover an actual police squad car and his paws are larger than four full-grown German Shepard Dogs! (How cool is that?!)
