Pretty Woman – A Modern Classic
Pretty Woman is a pretty giant success! The original film is a favorite to many, and has grossed over 500 million worldwide. The theater version is based on this same Julia Roberts-Richard Gere classic, featuring the book co-written by the film’s director, the late Garry Marshall, and screenwriter J.F. Lawton.
Edward is a very wealthy and sophisticated businessman who specializes in corporate raiding – buying up businesses to break them up and sell them off in pieces. Vivian is a prostitute struggling with her lifestyle choices, and a need to pay the rent. On a business trip to Los Angeles, Edward becomes lost and asks for directions from Vivian, who helps guide him back to Beverly Hills. In a business proposition, Edward hires Vivian to be his girlfriend for a week while he traverses the local social scene. Love and various complications invade their business arrangement – could this star-crossed Cinderella-story could have a happy ending?
Pretty Woman – The Musical Adaption
Following a world premiere in Chicago earlier this year, Pretty Woman: The Musical celebrated its official opening on Broadway August 16. Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, the contemporary stage adaptation of the popular 1990 romantic comedy stars Samantha Barks as Vivian alongside Andy Karl as Edward. The music is by Grammy winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance.
The screen play itself plays perfect homage to the movie that will delight even the biggest Pretty Woman fans! Favorites include the Rodeo drive shopping scene, the Polo match, and even delivers the iconic red dress for the opera, which made the audience gasp and applause.
Pretty Perfect – Pretty Woman: The Musical
The screen to theater adaption of the Cinderella-in-stiletto boots fairytale is pretty perfect! We loved experiencing the moments that we adored from the movie in a theater setting- and seeing the iconic characters from one of the most best romantic comedies of all time come alive on stage. The original film was a success due in part to the chemistry that Vivian and Edward had together – and the new theater stars captured this brilliantly! We felt the chemistry from our seats, and loved how the show captured the romantic essence of the movie and heightened the passion for the stage.
Don’t be late to this stunning musical adaptation that will have you smiling long after you leave the theater. More details on the show below!
