Rock Out – School of Rock on Broadway

Welcome to the School of Rock

Have a little rock star in the making or a child that has an interest in playing an instrument – run, don’t walk to the School of Rock The Musical! This energizing, fist pumping, guitar shredding, performance will have you on the edge of your seat – cheering for the band and believing in the power of rock again!

Based on the hit Movie, this rocking musical follows a failed but wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, who on a devilish whim, decides to pose as a substitute teacher to earn some cash at a prestigious school. He turns the class of straight A students into instrument slaying rock and roll legends, just in time for a Battle of the Bands – a championship title in which Dewey (and all his students) so desperately want to win. Run-ins happen along the way – including a possible love interest with one uptight headmistresses who tries to disrupt his mission. But will rock find a way?

This fun loving rocking musical performance had our audience dancing on their feet to the rocking music by Andrew Lloyd Webber that he created specifically for the theater adaption.  We’re still singing the music days later!

Come along as we join the band, and explore the hit Broadway show that’s perfect for all ages of Rock and Roll fans!

Smells Like Rock

No need to climb to Mount Rock – the show is right off the 51st Street subway stop in the gorgeous Winter Garden theater. Chalkboard inspired graphics and signs line the wall, along with amazing Rock paraphernalia themed decals. Walking up to the theater – you knew that a rocking good time was about to be had by all. We couldn’t wait to Rock!

Rock Out Before the Show

The School of Rock has a snack bar offering chips, candy, and assorted juice and soda drinks. There is also a cocktail bar for moms and dads if they wish. Shop til you Rock with a large selection of rockin’ merchandise to commemorate the occasion (including cool musical instruments such as guitars and drumsticks!).

Family Conveniences

The show was fantastic for kids, and catered brilliantly to their needs. We have been to a few shows before and always struggled with the reclining seats (little ones tend to slip inside the seat – and because of the angle can’t see). School of Rock had this issue solved – with awesome booster seats made specifically for their seats! The theater also had roaming snack waiters and waitresses – making it easy to grab a quick water or snack without dragging the fam back to the counter. These brilliant additions made our experience even better. (THANK YOU!)

You’re in the Band – School of Rock

The show was INCREDIBLE! Each and every cast member (yes – including all the kids) played their own instruments. LIVE! All children in the show are between the ages of 9 and 12. Can a twelve year-old be a Guitar God? The answer is a resounding fist pumping YES- we were absolutely watching the next Hendrix on stage.  We were in awe from all the talent – from keyboard to guitar, rocking drum players and vocal slayers – the show was like taking in an incredible live concert. It was amazing.

We would never give away the ending to the show – but one things for sure, there’s no way you can stop, the School of Rock!

Family Tips for your Visit:

  • The theater recommends the show for ages 8 and older, however our little guy (age 4) absolutely loved it! Suggest to use judgement as all children are different. Please note: Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre, and every person who enters will require their own ticket.
  • The show runtime is 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one intermission. While long in length the show was so exciting it didn’t feel long to our family. Our little guy was always engaged and wanting more.
  • Be sure to grab one of the booster seats for little kids. The extra few inches of height make for a huge difference!
