Atlantis Fun – Swimming with Dolphins

YourPhoto_0038Meet Tamera the Dolphin!

During our recent stay at the Bahamas, we knew we wanted to do something special for Lil Kid. We learned about Dolphin Kay, their dolphin experience on site, and knew we found our memory in the making.

Welcome to Dolphin Cay. The beautiful marine and mammal rescue and rehabilitation center located on the grounds of Atlantis.

Aside from being the rehabilitation center, Dolphin Kay also provides incredible face to face interactions and experiences with their famous residents. From deep water explorations to sea lion interactions – there is something for every one, at every age.

We chose the Shallow Water Interaction – which is perfect for young children, families, and anyone looking for a fun shallow water dolphin experience.

Dolphin Cay consists of a 14-acre lagoon consisting of nearly seven million galloons of ocean water, three interaction coves, and 7 interconnected pools. It’s size and beauty is stunning.

YourPhoto_0014Meet Tamera!

Our group jumped right in! Today we had the pleasure of meeting Tamera, a 29 year old bottlenose dolphin.

We learned that Tamera, along with 15 other dolphins, were rescued after being swept to sea from the Marine Life ocenarium in Missipi during hurricane Katrina. These miracle hurricane dolphins made a full recovery, and were the first residents to live in this state of the art facility.

Tamera was amazing! Gentle, sweet, and friendly.

During the interaction our instructor gave us fascinating facts about our new dolphin friend. One fun fact – every dolphins tail is different! The ridges on the tail are different on each dolphin, and considered its fingerprint.

Part of the interaction included a swim with Tamera herself! Lil Kid gently held on to her as she pulled him along the water. He loved it!
