While Taylor Swift is only 26 years old, she already has celebrated a 10-year career, multiple Grammy Awards, and such a following that it was only fitting that she needed an exhibition showcasing her celebrity. The Taylor Swift Experience, a traveling exhibit from the GRAMMY Museum, is now open in South Street Seaport after its original opening at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles. The popular exhibit gives swifties and music fans alike a look at this multi-platinum singer, musician, and songwriter through personal photographs, handwritten lyrics, performance outfits, and interactive experiences.
Here’s what to expect at the exhibit:
Red Carpet Entry
What better way to enter The Taylor Swift Experience then on a red carpet? The exhibit tickets mimic that of a concert ticket, and are available either at the door or in advance online. For those with young children – the ticket desk will happily hold your stroller while you explore the exhibit.
Iconic Performance Outfits
As someone who worked in design for years – this was my absolute favorite part of the exhibit. Many iconic costumes and gala dresses were on display, including the dress Taylor wore in her music video “Mean,” and the actual costumes from The Red Tour as well as the 1989 Tour. The detail and beauty of these iconic pieces is incredible to see in person.
Personal Touches
Taylor’s baby outfits, childhood pictures as well as handwritten top-charting hits are on display throughout the first floor of the exhibit.
Custom Musical Instruments
From bejeweled guitars to custom built (incredible!) pianos, the exhibit takes a look at Taylor’s instruments through her many performances. Numerous awards are also on display – including her 2009 GRAMMY Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “White Horse.”
Listening Stations
Many headphone listening stations and interactive elements are seen throughout the exhibit – including the above listening stations. Videos of her many performances and interviews are displayed as well.
Recording Studio
The exhibit also includes a small recording studio where you can practice singing Taylor’s songs. We heard many visitors belting out their favorite tune in this recording room during our visit!
Dance Floor Fun
Shake it off with this giant boom box! Possibly the largest boom box I’ve even seen was set up on the 2nd floor mezzanine of the exhibit. The fun box played music videos and blasted Taylor’s top hits. The fun interactive dance floor changes while you dance for quite a lively (and colorful!) experience.
Haven’t yet visited? You’re in luck! We’re giving away three 4-packs of tickets! (perfect for these cold winter days and the upcoming long weekend holiday!)
